When entering an e-mail for a patient the Send To fields for Appointment, Recalls and Queries reminders can be selected as E-mail by default.

Go to Location Setup > General tab

Group: Patients

Assign Communication Methods when Email is entered

Automatic: The Send To field will default to E-mail for Appt reminders, Recalls and Queries

With Prompt: When entering an E-mail, the system will display the following message
- No: Users manually select the communication method for patients
